Checking in to Hospital during Labour - REMINDERS

Assalamualaikum.

As a mother of two beautiful boys, I decided that it's time for me to keep track of some things so that I can come back here for future reference. No need for me to Google everything again! It's tiring and a hassle, believe me I've done it TWICE. So here are some tips I gathered through my own experience.

This list is in preparation for Normal Delivery in a Government Hospital in Malaysia. In my case, Hospital Selayang and I was a Full Paying Patient (FPP).

REMINDERS

1. NO JEWELLERY
Take off everything please, earrings, rings, bracelet. And please don't even bring them with you.

2. WEAR SIMPLE CLOTHES
Like me, I wore my most lightweight Jubah / long dress and slip on tudung / scarf. Tudung sarung will do. I wore my disposable panties from home already. If you can do without bra is better, during contractions / surges it's really a hassle to change into the hospital clothes so really be as simple as possible. AVOID WEARING PANTS. I wore my Crocs, the only footwear for me the whole time at the hospital. Dries and cleans easily.

3. HAVE YOUR PHONE WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES
I was alone at PAC before being pushed to Labour Room. I was able to text Hubby in between surges to keep him updated. Hang it around your neck or wrist. And make sure it's fully charged before leaving the house!

4. IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
During surges, you can't think straight. So make sure your companion knows where the important documents are. VITAL documents like your hospital check-up book or in my case my 'Buku Merah' or 'Pink Book'. Your IC and Guarantee Letter (GL) if needed.

5. WATERPROOF MAT
My water bag broke (pecah air ketuban) at home, so I was leaking all the way to the hospital. A pad is not enough to contain it, so I used my son's changing mat in the car. Worked for me! And my car is safe.

So far these are the important ones that I can think of. For me at least.

That's all today.

Muah!
