Assalamualaikum.
Here's my Hospital Bag Checklist for when my second prince was born. I had a normal delivery with him, so my packing is different from when his big brother was born. Abang was born via elective cesarean section 3 years ago, so I was admitted to the ward before hand and then went straight to OT. No labour room bag, just a bag for my ward admission.
So for this pregnancy, I had 2 bags prepared. 1 small bag for Labour Room (LR), and one small luggage with wheels for Ward. Upon reaching the hospital, we brought only my LR bag up to PAC. The PAC and LR in Hospital Selayang is a different floor from the Lobby/Ground Floor so I need to take the elevator. Hubs had to handle me, who was having strong surges and leaking and in pain. We used the wheelchair to go up so it was a good idea that my LR bag was small enough to put on my lap. Ok let's start.
LABOUR ROOM BAG
IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
My Pink Book, IC, Nikah card or Sijil.. not sure if needed but I brought anyway. GL.
HANDPHONE
I had my own phone as well as an extra one. It was Hubby's, we use it now to play Quran verses via speaker. Didn't have headphones for the tummy so I used this. Brought along and played it non stop. Bring powerbank and charger. Charge them all beforehand!
BABY STUFF 1 SET
I had these in a separate smaller bag so can just give the nurse when she asks for it.
- 1 Long sleeve top and Long pants. With buttons at the front.
- 1 Topi or hat
- 1 set mittens and booties
- 2-3 diapers
- 1 Small set of wipes
- 1 Receiving blanket : remember to bring thick one, now that I know the LR is soooo cold!
FOOD & DRINKS
I was given a cup of water by the nurse, but I brought my own mineral water as well. No Air Selusuh for me, I don't understand how it works. Air Zamzam pun bawak. Both in the 500ml size bottle. Bring bendy straws! Easy to drink if you happen to lie down most of the time. I had kurma Ajwa, 1 small tupperware. Hubs helped to take out the seeds.. hehe. Kurma was enough for me, bite size and gave lots of energy.
These were the only things I needed while in Labour Room. Not much, but I had some other things in the bag so senang la hubs don't have to go take the ward bag straight away. Rest first with me and baby, later can go take the bag right. So some stuff in the LR bag but for the ward are:
- Milo 3in1: lots of packets please, share la with the hubs..
- Weetameal packets, Oat Krunch. Any biscuits that is simple and filling
- thermos with cup, spoon
- towel for me
- toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, small shampoo n shower gel, facial wash, cotton, small fragrance lotion, sikat, getah rambut, bedak
- PAD: I used maternity panties, but next time just get the Laurier Superguard 35cm. Super awesome, much much better especially after birth when the flow is really heavy. And it can contain the blood clots which come out like waterfall. Serious not kidding. I'm very happy with this pad.
- disposable panties - another life saver. Bought 2 sizes for during pregnancy and smaller size for after birth.
- wipes
- shawl pashmina. Multipurpose tau! Can use as nursing cover, wrap when cold since tak bawak sweater, buat tudung kejap when doctor datang check, blanket baby, cover cot when the light is too bright..
For my Ward Bag it's just extra stuff I might need for just in case moments. Really, if you know me then this is just normal. I memang tak reti to just go with the flow, always always try to be prepared for things. What if kena csec? What if there's any complications? I might need to stay admitted longer right. So in this bag kalau u macam I then it's helpful, I didn't miss anything this time. Except my breastfeeding pillow...
- 1 set of clothes for my hubs
- few sets of baby clothes - 2 piece easier
- diapersssssss
- baju nak balik for me
That's all. senang jeee...

Checking in to Hospital during Labour - REMINDERS
Assalamualaikum.
As a mother of two beautiful boys, I decided that it's time for me to keep track of some things so that I can come back here for future reference. No need for me to Google everything again! It's tiring and a hassle, believe me I've done it TWICE. So here are some tips I gathered through my own experience.
This list is in preparation for Normal Delivery in a Government Hospital in Malaysia. In my case, Hospital Selayang and I was a Full Paying Patient (FPP).
REMINDERS
1. NO JEWELLERY
Take off everything please, earrings, rings, bracelet. And please don't even bring them with you.
2. WEAR SIMPLE CLOTHES
Like me, I wore my most lightweight Jubah / long dress and slip on tudung / scarf. Tudung sarung will do. I wore my disposable panties from home already. If you can do without bra is better, during contractions / surges it's really a hassle to change into the hospital clothes so really be as simple as possible. AVOID WEARING PANTS. I wore my Crocs, the only footwear for me the whole time at the hospital. Dries and cleans easily.
3. HAVE YOUR PHONE WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES
I was alone at PAC before being pushed to Labour Room. I was able to text Hubby in between surges to keep him updated. Hang it around your neck or wrist. And make sure it's fully charged before leaving the house!
4. IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
During surges, you can't think straight. So make sure your companion knows where the important documents are. VITAL documents like your hospital check-up book or in my case my 'Buku Merah' or 'Pink Book'. Your IC and Guarantee Letter (GL) if needed.
5. WATERPROOF MAT
My water bag broke (pecah air ketuban) at home, so I was leaking all the way to the hospital. A pad is not enough to contain it, so I used my son's changing mat in the car. Worked for me! And my car is safe.
So far these are the important ones that I can think of. For me at least.
That's all today.
Muah!
